About this role:

The CFO position is accountable for managing all aspects of Finance and Administration departments which includes Finance/Accounting, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Compliance & Asset Management. The incumbent is responsible for directing decisions to develop corporate knowledge of billing rate requirements and set new customer billing rates according to OEB and IMO regulations and completion of required reporting and regulatory filings to government agencies, the Ontario Energy Board and other related bodies.

 

This position is accountable for financial and accounting matters for all three companies (BEC, BHI and BESI) including procurement and inventory. Financial reporting to the board of directors and shareholders, budgeting, tax preparation and planning cash management including borrowing and investing of surplus funds and analysis and interpretation of financial information.

 

This position is also accountable to the President and Board of Directors for ensuring that Ontario Energy Board Measurements are met. This position is expected to lead dynamic change both internally and externally through strategic planning including, the evaluation of new business ventures and the providing of expertise in the maximization of shareholder value. The incumbent is politically astute with seasoned relationship building skills and is expected to work effectively with community stakeholders, other utilities, government and its agencies.


Core responsibilities:

  • Guidance, direction and leadership to the Management staff of the Finance and other administration departments of the corporation. Plan, recommend and ensure compliance with the corporations policies and procedures.
  • Control, direct and co-ordinate the annual operating, capital and cash budgeting process.
  • Advise and support the Board’s Audit and Budget Committee.
  • Participate and provide input in strategic planning, corporate policies, budgeting, business processes and dynamic changes in the electrical industry.
  • Analyze company operations to pinpoint opportunities and areas for operational efficiencies and/or improvements.
  • Recommend opportunities for mergers, acquisitions, or expansion into new business ventures. Assess the riskiness and attractiveness of investment alternatives.
  • Supervise investment of funds; works with banks and/or investment bankers to raise additional capital as required for expansion.
  • Oversee and guide internal control procedures and accounting and financial policies/transactions.
  • Reports to the President on a regular basis. Works closely with that officer and other senior staff to establish long-range operating goals and expansion.
  • Represent the company or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the company in official functions.


What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or other related discipline; master's degree in business administration preferred.
  • Ten years’ experience in increasingly complex supervisory positions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, developing financial proposals and forecasts.
  • CPA, CA, CGA, CMA or equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable of financial/accounting principles.


What you'll need to be successful:

  • Knowledge of the electrical industry specifically the OEB and Energy Act, Federal and Provincial regulations would be an asset.
